I was fortunate enough to have my former CMO at Toast recommend me to Dave Yuan at Tidemark, a growth equity firm focused on the vertical SaaS space.
In an effort to better understand their market, Tidemark conducted an cross-industry survey aimed at uncovering trends and priorities for major vertical SaaS players. Tidemark wanted to release some of their findings into the market, which is where I come in.
The finished product of my work is Tidemark’s 2024 Vertical & SaaS SMB Benchmarks Report.
Turning raw data into a compelling narrative and actionable insights
I stepped into Tidemark’s benchmark report project as the data was being cleaned and analyzed. I was brought on to help find a narrative within the data and structure the report.
Finding the narrative was simple thanks to the great foundation that Dave and Tidemark team had built with their Vertical SaaS Knowledge Project (VSKP).

Given the prominence and maturity of Tidemark’s VSKP, my primary recommendation was to align the report with the key points of the larger narrative.
I aligned the data into a detailed outline that followed the key points of the VSKP. I built the initial charts and graphs to help with data storytelling. And I drafted and edited the first round copy for much of the report.
The end result was a well-structured report that provides compelling and actionable recommendations for a targeted audiences — while positioning Tidemark as a stalwart thought leader within the vertical SaaS space.
